Charles Arthur ‘The Mole’ Frump (1910-1999)

Coal miner.  Disappeared during shift in the Gaughland Pit in 1933.   Dug up by Channel 4 Time Team in 1997.  His subsequent legal action to recover 64 years back pay was dismissed on appeal as he was considered to be self-employed from 1933-1997.  Later prosecuted and jailed for failing to make any National Insurance contributions during the period of self-employment.

 

Ferdinand ‘The Knob’ Sprightley (1950-)

Hands-free pole-vaulting champion (Peru 1977).

An inspiration to the ladies and hated by men.
